Lavigne Faces Lawsuit

A band from the 1970s called The Rubinoos are claiming that Avril Lavigne’s new hit song “Girlfriend” is a direct rip off of their song called “I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend”. One of the songwriters, Tommy Dunbar insists that it is identical down to the lyric, meter and rhythm. There is a court date set for August 28th in Oakland. Avril’s spokeswoman refused to comment. The most popular searches on You Tube Friday night were videos comparing Avril’s song to The Rubinoos. A music critic on Billboard magazine’s website already stated that he thought Avril’s song was totally lifted from the 1970s band. I personally cannot stand the song and find it to be incredibly childish for someone who just got married and began an adult life. It’s a ridiculous record label attempt to lure in the teens that will spend their allowance on a crap album and believe it’s cool because MTV says so.
