Oprah Winfrey quitting Chicago after bad press, claims Windy Citys mayor
The Mayor of Chicago is blaming the media for Oprah Winfrey calling time on her chat show.
Mayor Richard M Daley said that he is saddened by Winfrey’s decision to leave her show, which she records in the Windy city.
He said that adverse publicity surrounding the closing down of a major intersection in the city for the season premiere of Winfrey’s show had forced her hand.
He said: “That became a big rhubarb in the Chicago press – beat up Oprah. So you keep kicking people, people will leave, simple as that… I’m just saying that when someone’s doing something like that, most cities would love it…”
He added: “I don’t know why it became so controversial.”
