Nicolas Cage gets UN Global Citizen Of The Year award
Nicolas Cage won a UN award for humanitarian work and was appointed a goodwill ambassador for the UN Office On Drugs And Crime.
The award, Global Citizen Of The Year, was presented to Cage at the UN Correspondents Association event by Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.
Cage donated $2million to establish a fund to help former child soldiers and worked on a campaign that came from his film Lord Of War. In receiving the award, the actor said his role will be “to shine a spotlight on the need for global justice”.
A Global Citizen Of The Year award was presented to William Roedy, who is chairman of MTV Networks International, in recognition of work for HIV and AIDS.
