Wayne Rooney has reportedly jetted off to Barbados for a paradise break following his World Cup shambles.

The England team’s biggest disappointment appeared downbeat as he arrived on the idyllic Caribbean island with wife Coleen and baby son Kai earlier this afternoon, according to reports.

The Manchester United striker and his wife had splashed out for first-class tickets on British Airways for the long-awaited trip and were reportedly due to stay at their newly-built mansion, on the ultra-exclusive Royal Westmoreland development, for the first time.

Boasting breathtaking sea views, an infinity pool, Jacuzzi and gym, the six-bedroom pad – designed from scratch by Rooney – cost a reported £5m.

It has since emerged that the luxury holiday was booked two days prior to England’s embarrassing 4-1 defeat in the game against Germany.

No doubt Rooney was desperate to escape the scathing criticism over the country’s worst-ever World Cup defeat.

But it remains to be seen whether flying thousands of miles across the Atlantic Ocean will help him.

“Wayne may have arrived in paradise, but he didn’t seem happy,” said an onlooker. “He looked stressed and in need of some relaxation.”

Neighbours on the 700-acre estate, on the west coast of Barbados, include a host of British sporting legends and showbiz stars including Gary Lineker, Virginia Wade, Andrew “Freddy” Flintoff, Rio Ferdinand, Lee Westwood, Joe Cole, boxer Joe Calzaghe, and comedy duo Ant and Dec.

The 53-year-old Sexy Beast star was planning a month-long trip to see the England football team take on the rest of the world but had to cancel after his wife and his pals’ partners got wind of their intentions.

A source told UK newspaper The Sun: “Ray and his mates had been plotting their holiday for months.

“They knew it would be a hard sell trying to convince their wives and girlfriends to let them go for a month, so they thought they’d keep it secret and spring it on them at the last minute, when there would be little they could do.

“But the women got wind of the plan and made it clear they wouldn’t stand for it.”

However, Ray has now made a compromise and booked rooms at a hotel in Mauritius so the boys can take a three-hour flight to see the football games and then fly back to be with their partners.

David Beckham has presented England’s bid to host the 2018 World Cup to FIFA.

The 34-year-old star took a trip to the FIFA headquarters in Zurich to present the bid as England ambassador.

He told of the ‘passion and emotion’ that England would bring to the tournament by hosting it.

He said: "I’m here on behalf of our fans. Football runs through our veins. We are all brought up on it.

"It’s truly an honour to be here. On behalf of our team, the delegation and our fans, we present you with our bid book."

Beckham handed the bid to FIFA president Sepp Blatter, who said he had already received a phone call from the new Prime Minister, David Cameron.

British royals Prince William and Harry will be supporting England’s World Cup Campaign next year.

The two princes are big football fans and will join the 60,000 English fans that are expected to travel to South Africa for the competition.

William, 27, is the Football Association’s president and will play an important part in the UK’s bid to host the 2018 World Cup.

Harry, 25, will also be flying out and is hoping to highlight the problems in the HIV/AIDS-plagued area of Lesotho.

A source said to British newspaper The Sun: “Plans are still being drawn up, but both princes will be given time off from their military duties to attend.

“They love football and are keen to be there to support England, but also see this as the perfect opportunity to focus attention on Lesotho. They are also expected to play in a football match in Lesotho.”
